Jamestown, Virginia is one of the birth places of America. Inhabited in 1607, it is where settlers came to claim their pieces of America and establish it as a country. Located just outside Williamsburg, Virginia, it is full of history. There are many things to see in Jamestown. Jamestown will have you thinking you have taken a step back in time and are living like the original dwellers.
Like Williamsburg, Jamestown is a living museum. People dress and reenact how the settlers lived back in the 1600s and will have you feeling as though you are just coming to America yourself. If you visit the gallery exhibit, you can see relics of the past, from old pottery to even skeletons of a couple of the settlers. You can take the Jamestown ferry across the James River to the Jamestown settlement. The waters are navigable and take you to the island where many settlers first settled. Visit the Yorktown battlefield and see where one of the battles was fought. Retrace the soldiers' steps and even read the headstones of many of the lost soldiers at the different cemeteries. Fort James is an excellent replica of the original fort and the Archaearium overlooks the original site of the first settlement. There are many artifacts to be seen in the Arcaearium that show how the first settlers lived.
Jamestown is full of history from our forefathers. You can see how the first settlers lived and grew into a colony. The museums tell the story of how the first settlers came to the country, tried to start a life, and how many died due to famine and disease. Jamestown is a city where the history of colonial times comes to life with amazing replicas and even original artifacts of our forefathers.
